What we’re looking for
As a Senior Project Manager at Engage, you’ll lead the agency’s largest and most complex digital projects, from discovery and definition through to launch and optimisation. This includes integration-heavy platforms (logged-in experiences, ecommerce and payment flows, back end systems and data), alongside content-rich website rebuilds with large stakeholder groups and substantial content operations.
You’ll take full ownership of delivery, building trusted relationships with clients, guiding internal teams, and ensuring we hit deadlines, budgets and expectations. You’ll also own forecasting and profitability for your accounts, managing scope, change control and commercials with clarity and confidence, building on the existing expectations in the role.
Beyond delivery, you’ll help shape how we work. You’ll drive improvements to our project processes, support team operations, and play an active role in mentoring and developing others.
This role calls for calm, clarity and confidence. Someone who leads with purpose, thinks two steps ahead, and keeps delivery solutions-focused, especially under pressure.
Responsibilities
Project Management
- Lead end-to-end delivery from discovery and definition through to launch and handover, creating and maintaining robust plans (timelines, milestones, critical path, tasks, owners).
- Own delivery governance across complex, multi-workstream projects, including RAID, dependencies, decision logs, and release planning.
- Manage scope, budget, forecasting and change control, ensuring changes are documented, costed, agreed, and communicated with clear trade-offs.
- Partner closely with technical leads to shape delivery approach and non-functional requirements (security, performance, accessibility), and translate technical constraints into clear plans and comms.
- Coordinate internal teams, clients, and third parties such as platform vendors, integration partners, data providers, branding agencies, accessibility specialists, and client-side IT or security stakeholders.
- Run clear and consistent project communications, ensuring documentation, decisions and updates are captured and shared in the right places, with the right people.
- Produce high-quality reporting and status updates, tailored to the audience, keeping stakeholders aligned on progress, risks, blockers, and next steps.
- Monitor team progress and actively remove blockers, keeping delivery calm and solutions-focused through ambiguity and pressure.
- Own quality through the lifecycle, ensuring appropriate review and testing before client-facing releases, and coordinating bug triage, fixes, and validation against requirements.
- Lead content-heavy delivery where required, including content discovery and auditing, information architecture and taxonomy collaboration, content modelling inputs, governance and approvals, and migration planning.
- Ensure effective handover, documentation and training so clients can confidently manage and maintain their platform and content post-launch.
Communication
- Lead clear, consistent communication across clients, internal stakeholders, and third parties, ensuring the right people have the right information at the right time.
- Build trusted client relationships through proactive, regular contact, adapting style and detail to suit different audiences (delivery teams, senior stakeholders, technical leads).
- Own how communication lands with stakeholders, using calm, confident framing, especially when navigating risk, uncertainty, or change.
- Manage project communication channels, keeping documentation, decisions, and actions visible and well organised.
- Escalate issues early with context, options, and recommendations, leading conversations that protect outcomes and manage expectations.
- Lead difficult conversations with empathy and clarity, de-escalating tension and keeping discussions solutions-focused under pressure.
Project governance
- Plan and manage schedules across your projects, scoping and assigning tasks, monitoring deadlines, and maintaining clear ownership across teams.
- Manage resourcing in our scheduling software, ensuring work is accurately booked, properly briefed, and sequenced at the right time.
- Protect team focus and delivery momentum by actively managing scope, priorities, and stakeholder noise.
- Prepare estimates for new work and additional requirements, ensuring assumptions, scope and risks are clear.
- Own account commercials day to day: keep forecasts up to date, monitor budget burn and margin, and maintain visibility of account health, escalating risks early.
- Ensure timely invoicing aligned to milestones and deliverables, and keep commercial admin accurate and up to date.
- Run change control clearly and commercially, documenting and communicating impacts on time, cost, scope, and capacity.
- Maintain internal reporting hygiene: keep project status, risks, blockers and next steps current, and ensure resourcing and forecasting data is accurate ahead of weekly and monthly meetings.
Line Management
- You’ll provide delivery leadership and mentoring to more junior members of the project management team.
- Formal line management isn’t a requirement initially but may be expected longer term, once you are fully embedded in the team and accounts
Experience
You’ll have a proven history of leading complex digital projects from discovery and definition through to launch and handover. You’re confident driving progress across multiple workstreams, leading cross-functional teams, and guiding clients through high-stakes delivery, including integration-heavy platforms, logged-in experiences, ecommerce and payments, complex CMS builds, and content-rich website rebuilds with large content estates.
