At The Races

Racing to success: Telling stories from the world of horse racing

The brief

Creative people are often known for loving a good story, and we’re no different. We’re always finding new and interesting ways to tell the stories of our clients, and we were put to the test by At The Races.

What we delivered

Intro Atr

“Sometimes a simple web page isn’t enough to do a story justice. We wanted to tell the tales of great racehorses, jockeys, trainers and events through a more immersive and engaging medium and commissioned Engage to help.”

Matthew Taylor, Director of New Media and Innovation at At The Races

Straight from the horse’s mouth

The horse racing world is often a bit of a mystery for people who aren’t deeply involved and telling the unique stories in a way that not only entices lovers of the sport, but people beyond that can be challenging.

At The Races tasked us with telling stories from this exciting world in a creative, dynamic and compelling way that would set them apart from the competition and engage the existing audience and new people.

The ‘mane’ event

There were so many stories that we needed to tell and we worked together on a solution that would not only meet the brief, but wow our client.

We produced a creative toolbox of components that allowed At The Races to tell dynamic and interactive stories that would get users hooked and engage them right away. This toolbox was of course a cut above an average article or blog post. Timelines, images, videos and moving text were all deployed to make the stories come to life.

The home straight

A huge part of delivering against a brief is securing incredible and measurable results for our clients. Some of the stories that we worked on gained huge attention.

A highlight for us is ‘the Breeders’ Cup’ winning an Eclipse Award for the Multimedia category. For anyone not in the know, The Eclipse Award is one of the most prestigious awards in US racing media and this is the first time a European media organisation won such an award. Impressed? We definitely were.

So what did our client have to say?

On seeing the work that we coordinated, Matthew added: “Since our first project, The Story of Frankel, we’ve worked with Engage to produce extensive features on top Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien, a Platinum Jubilee celebration of Queen Elizabeth II’s horses and the award winning Breeders’ Cup Magical Memories.

“The platform that Engage produced for us is exactly what we wanted. Now we can create great stories quickly and impressively, maximising the use of rich imagery and multimedia to enrich the web experience we provide for racing fans.”
